Flexible Rising Mains for Borehole Pumps

Rising Main

The advantages of using a flexible riser can be summarised as follows:
  • Oroflex flexible risers have lower frictional losses than equivalent steel tube.
  • Installation/retrieval for service or repair of the pump is carried out in a fraction of the time compared to steel piping.
  • Oroflex hoses do not decay or require specific maintenance being resistant to encrustation.
  • They can be easily installed.
  • Oroflex is unique in that it retains its original bore after pressurisation which allows for the couplings to be re-used.  During use, however, the axial expansion is increased by a further 10% improving flow characteristics.
Oroflex 40 hose is constructed from polyurethane and re-inforced with high tensile polyester yarns.

It is WRC approved for potable water and is available in two sizes 1¼" bore and 2" bore, suitable for 4" pumps.  This compact, lightweight hose is available in lengths as long as 1000 metres and is self-supporting, i.e. a cable is not required to carry the pump hose and water column.  A full range of proven hydraulically efficient couplings are available.

Oroflex 60 Industrial is designed for use as a flexible well riser, it is remarkably robust, totally dependable and attractively priced.

Oroflex 60 constructed from a special nitrovinyl rubber and is reinforced with 2 high tensile polyester jackets.  Polyurethane based materials are used for potable water applications.

Proven over ten years the unique non-twisting design eliminates torque twist at pump start up also vibration.  A complete range of fittings and accessories (2"-6") compliments these hoses which are now widely used in agriculture and by the utility companies and for specialist de-watering projects.

To achieve optimum performance a velocity of 2.5 metres/second is advised.
Speeds greater than this cause a greater load loss.

Deep Wells

For deep wells where the depth is greater than 200 metres, lengths of Oroflex 60 2" & 3" can be joined using a double taper joiner or two BSP connectors joined with a BSP socket.
Centering Device

Vertical wells should be the norm but this can never be guaranteed and to avoid the possibility of the hose chafing against the well/lining, centering devices can be installed near the pump and then at 50 metre intervals up the riser.
